Mark Lomas MSc BSc (Hons) MCIAT

Welcome to my online portfolio.

I'm a Chartered Architectural Technologist with 25 years experience in sustainable construction, as both builder and designer. Of my hand-built timber house, the Times commented, “...ahead of [its] time.”

I have worked with leading Passivhaus architects, applying PH fabric-first principles to projects in timber, steel, concrete-frame and wide-cavity masonry.

Inspired by biological processes performing engineering functions, I pioneered the use of reedbed systems in Ireland, and have trained with leading exponents of green roofs and ecosystem services.

My designs have been exhibited at the Science Museum and Burning Man Festival, and I have received awards from CIAT and CIOB.

This site’s purpose is to showcase both my real-world, hands-on experience in construction, and also examples of my academic, design and professional work. I’ve structured this into 3 main sections : Design, Build and Process - all accessed from the main navigation at the top of each page. Most of the pictures can be clicked for either a higher-resolution jpeg, or a pdf version of written materials. I welcome your feedback on the design of the site, which I created in Apple iWeb, using GIMP for graphics processing.

The site is an on-going project being continually updated, and I apologise for any inactive links.
